Janet Brooks I grew up in the tropical climate of the Gulf Coast of Texas, surrounded by a rich diversity of nature, and loving every moment outdoors, day or night. Perhaps this environment was the genesis of my affinity for color, now integral in much of my art, whether abstract or realistic in style.

I am grateful for the guidance and support so generously given by my college professors. I especially wish to thank Vincent Mariani and Robert Levers for sharing their personal visions, and Charles Umlauf for conveying the power of authenticity of the human form.

Much of my work today explores the realm of nature. My watercolors are both an objective and a symbolic study of rocks, shells, flowers, leaves, plants. I draw from observation, and I often allow for invention. The close study of these subjects reveals a realm both delicate and dramatic, intricate and intense. I hope to share a sense of heightened awareness and feeling of interconnection with the natural world.

This quote from the esteemed entomologist E. O. Wilson says it all for me:
"The diversity of life has immense aesthetic and spiritual value."
